According to The Brain & Spine Foundation; The term ‘neurological’ comes from neurology – the branch of medicine that deals with problems affecting the nervous system. The word neuro means nerve and nervous system. Some neurological problems or conditions are present from birth (congenital), some are hereditary (genetic) and others have a sudden onset due to injury or illness, such as a head injury or stroke or a cancer of the brain or spine.

If you have one of these problems, It is advisable to go straight to a neurologist rather than a primary care doctor. A neurologist is a doctor with specialized training in diagnosing and treating diseases of the brain, spinal cord, peripheral nerves, and muscles. Most of the time, a primary care doctor refers patients to a neurologist if they have symptoms that indicate a neurological condition.
